Parent-Directed Home Education

Consistent with the Home Education Regulation, PRSD is proud to support parents in home educating their children with the ongoing support of dedicated Home Education Facilitators who are Alberta certificated teachers.  Your Facilitator meets with you to support you in the development of a home education program that meets your child’s needs and provides ongoing support as often as you wish.

Shared Responsibility Parent/Teacher Education

Are you comfortable teaching your child in English Language Arts but not sure how to guide them in Math?  You may be able to build a Shared Responsibility program that formally includes both parent-directed and teacher-directed programming.  PRSD offers this blended programming so that you can avail yourself of certificated teachers delivering the Alberta Program of Studies for some aspects of your child’s education, while retaining responsibility for other aspects.  In some cases, a Shared Responsibility program could mean that your child spends some time in your local PRSD school if desired and where possible.

Virtual Education Program

The Peace River School Division's Virtual Education program provides access to educational programming from Alberta certificated teachers, following the Alberta Program of Studies.

Grade 10 to 12 teacher-directed students have access to both synchronous and asynchronous programing:

  • Synchronous courses are delivered through PRSD’s Grade 10-12 Virtual Education Program (VEP) where courses are timetabled by semester and students are required to join live virtual classes through Google Meet at set times each day with other students.  Students require a compatible device such as a Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer with a working webcam and microphone, and consistent high speed internet able to support Google Meets.  For more information or further details, please contact us.
  • Asynchronous courses are delivered through Peace Regional Outreach Campus and the Fairview and Area Learning Store where students are able to set flexible timelines and access support from teachers as needed either in-person, over the phone, or through Google Meet.  Courses can be started and completed almost any time during the school year and most are available in paper or online formats.  For more information or further details, please contact us.
  • Students are able to take a combination of synchronous and asynchronous courses to best-meet their educational needs.  Please note that for both synchronous and asynchronous courses, some assessments will need to be completed and supervised in-person at an approved site such as the nearest PRSD school.

Outreach Programs

PRSD offers two Outreach Programs: Peace Regional Outreach Campus and Fairview and Area Learning Store. Students who attend either of these Outreach programs are guaranteed access to certificated teachers who guide students through the Alberta Education Program of Study, at the students' individual pace.

Each student's program structure is planned with their teacher with the goal of meeting the educational needs of the student. The plan addresses attendance, punctuality, and achievement standards, while accommodating the needs of the student.
